When we began exploring the collaboration between Manifold and the Broad Institute, we knew this had to be more than a transactional relationship. From the outset, trust and a shared mission to accelerate the pace of biomedical science guided our efforts.

Our conversations revealed a mutual vision: addressing the critical challenges researchers face today by providing the modern infrastructure needed to unlock the secrets of disease. By combining Broad’s scientific expertise with Manifold’s technological innovation, we saw an opportunity to push the boundaries of both science and technology.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Manifold and the Broad Institute have long shared a common goal of accelerating scientific progress  in an era of data-driven biomedical R&D . Broad has been at the forefront of computational and translational science, pioneering efforts to build the foundational infrastructure required to fill critical gaps in research. A decade ago, this meant creating tools like the Terra platform to provide researchers with secure and scalable environments for storing, accessing, and analyzing data. Today, the challenge has evolved: how can we empower scientists to work with exponentially growing datasets and exponentially advancing AI technology more effectively?

This is where Manifold’s expertise comes in. Born during a transformative era of machine learning and deep learning breakthroughs, Manifold has focused on applying these advancements to life sciences R&D. Our work has highlighted the need for a robust, scalable platform to make multimodal and genomic data accessible and AI-ready—capabilities that form the core of Manifold’s technology today.

Together, we’re addressing the reality of modern R&D: the sheer volume of genomic data alone will exceed 40 exabytes in 2025 according to some estimates. Organizations leveraging this data are already driving critical discoveries in understanding complex diseases like cancer and rare genetic disorders. This collaboration will enable scientists to harness the power of these datasets at an unprecedented scale, transforming data into discovery.

What This Collaboration Represents

The accelerating pace of biomedical research requires infrastructure that can keep up with the scale, complexity, and collaboration demands of modern science. This collaboration represents a commitment to advancing that infrastructure, with each organization focusing on its strengths:

  • Manifold will provide the data infrastructure and AI capabilities purpose-built for modern life sciences R&D.
  • Broad Institute will expand its focus on creating and distributing computational science tools that drive impact across the scientific community.

This collaboration will unlock exponential increases in scientific output, aligning our roadmaps to push global life sciences R&D  forward.

Unlocking the Future of Life Sciences R&D

With this collaboration, we’re enhancing the infrastructure of the broader life sciences R&D communities at an unprecedented scale. Since its founding, Manifold has been committed to accelerating R&D through innovative tools. With Broad, we will enable seamless R&D collaborations and access to powerful AI-enabled capabilities. These include tools for data transformation, semantic search, and intelligent agents that simplify data access and usability. We’ll also enable “bring your own cloud” support, allowing researchers to align with their organizational cloud strategies.

This collaboration will enable the entire scientific community to share their work, fostering a flywheel effect for AI in life sciences. Researchers will be able to bring their data, maintain full ownership and access control, and contribute algorithms, insights, and tools. Broad scientists will be among the contributors, sharing novel methods to drive innovation and amplify the impact across the entire field.

By integrating Manifold’s AI-powered technology with Broad’s leadership in biomedical and computational science, we are building the next-generation life sciences R&D platform.

Looking Ahead

The collaboration between Manifold and the Broad Institute marks a pivotal moment for life sciences R&D, exemplifying how shared vision and expertise can advance progress. By focusing on what we each do best, we’re enabling researchers globally to address the biggest challenges in biology and medicine with cutting-edge tools and infrastructure.
